Summer Skincare Tips From A Licensed Esthetician

Licensed Esthetician Jasmine King provides her top 10 summer skincare tips.

1. Wear SPF

There’s no questioning the first and most important rule of summer skincare, WEAR YOUR SPF. The sun emits harmful rays that can cause dull, dry, and damaged skin, which is why our licensed estheticians at Revive recommend using a lightweight SPF30 in your daily skincare routine. Applying sunscreen to the face is important, but make sure you don’t forget those ears and lips!

2. Hydration is Key

At Revive, we focus on total body wellness, which includes educating our clients on the importance of hydration. Proper hydration is essential for everyday cell function in our body, but it is also vital for skin health. Maintaining proper hydration levels helps to flush toxins, reduce oil production in the skin, and improve overall skin elasticity, thus helping to prevent breakouts.

3. Coverage, Coverage, COVERAGE.

Yes, applying sunscreen is important but so is seeking coverage from the sun. Whether you sit under an umbrella or throw on a wide-brim floppy hat to match your summer aesthetic, escaping the harmful rays emitted by the sun is an essential part of maintaining healthy skin.

4. Treat Sun Damage

While the Revive team hopes you avoid over-exposure to the sun, we know that accidents happen. Recovering the integrity of your skin is extremely important in these cases. Retinoids, Vitamin C serums, and facial services such as chemical peels all aid in restoring skin integrity and adding hydration back to sun damaged skin.

5 . Avoid Peak Hours

In the sunshine state, we see an average of five and a half peak sunlight hours a day. While it’s great to be able to enjoy some fun in the sun, this also means that there’s over 5 hours a day where our skin is highly susceptible to over exposure and sun damage. Do your best to avoid laying out during these hours, especially without SPF.

6. Load up on Vitamin C

Vitamin (and we cannot stress this enough) C! Our bodies not only thrive on it, but they depend  on it. Whether it’s through a Vitamin C serum or an abundance of oranges, make sure you get your daily dose of Vitamin C!

7. Wear Non -Comedogenic or Mineral Based Makeup

The licensed estheticians at Revive wellness know that for some us, being Instagram ready, even on the beach, is a must. That’s why we recommend using a non-comedogenic or a mineral based foundation. Comedogenic (oily) makeup can cause clogged pores, thus leading to dreaded breakouts. It’s best to use a mineral based or less oily foundation during the summer when your body is sweating more than usual.

8. Use a Retinoid at Night

Whoever said diamonds are a girl's best friend clearly never used Rhonda Allison’s Retinol Supreme after a long day in the sun. Retinol, derived from Vitamin A, is naturally produced by our bodies and aids in boosting cell turnover, kickstarting collagen production and reducing fine lines and wrinkles that can derive from exposure to the sun.

9. Use a Good Toner

We all know that we’re supposed to drink lots of water to keep our body running, but we often forget that our skin needs a little extra hydration at times too. Toners are a great way to give our skin the extra hydration it needs while simultaneously cooling us down. Adding a hydrating toner to your bag of beach essentials is a must this summer!

10. Re-Apply That SPF!

Did we mention SPF? If there’s anything you take from this blog, please let it be WEAR YOUR SPF. Of all of the tips we shared today. This is the most important. Re-apply that SPF at least every hour, if not every half hour, to protect that beautiful glowing skin.
